The 1st Mini Album "Gee"

Gee is the 1st mini-album by Girls' Generation. The mini-album was released on January 7, 2009 after their 9 months of hiatus.

This album contains total five songs including the lead single of the same title. The first single of the album, "Gee" is a fast-tempo song (despite only going in 100 BPM) about a girl who has fallen in love for the first time. The title is supposed to be an exclamation of surprise, similar to "어머나!" (Eomeona!, similar in meaning to "Oh, my goodness!", or, more similarly, "Gee!" in English). The song "Way to Go!" (Korean: 힘내!) is a new full version of Girls' Generation and TVXQ Samsung's Anycall Haptic Commercial digital single, "Haptic Motion", and an official music video was released featuring the making of music video "Gee".The MV of Gee also had SHINee's MinHo as guest appearance."Dear. Mom" was composed by Kim Tae Sung, while the lyrics were composed by his girlfriend singer Ivy, though she used the penname "The Lighthouse" in the album credits.

"Gee" is the record holder for the longest-running #1 on music portal M.net (for 8 weeks), surpassing the previous record of 6 weeks set by the Wonder Girls' "Nobody". They also broke the record on KBS's music show Music Bank by being #1 for 9 consecutive weeks, previously set by Jewelry's "One More Time, which had 7 wins. They won the award for best-selling song for the first half 2009 for "Gee". Promotions for the song ended at the end of March.

Music videos

There are three full music videos for Gee. The video with the storyline was released on January 7, 2009. It features the girls as mannequins in a store who come to life after the employee closes and leaves the store. SHINee member Minho plays the employee. At the end of the video, the girls run away as they're mannequins and Minho comes in and looks at a work board. The dance scenes show the girls dancing in a white room wearing different colored shorts. The music video for "Gee" accumulated over a million views within a day of its release, and has over 73 million hits on YouTube as of May 2012.The other two videos are dance versions of the music video. The first one shows the girls dancing in the store, without the "mannequin storyline" while the second one simply shows the girls dancing before a white background which is used in the original music video.

And the music video for Way To Go! consists of behind the scene footage from Gee music videos.
