The 6th Japanese Single "FLOWER POWER"

"Flower Power" is the sixth Japanese single released by Girls' Generation. The single was released on November 14, 2012 through digital download on ITunes Japan while the physical release is set on November 21, 2012. It serves as the third single from their second Japanese studio album Girls' Generation II ~Girls & Peace~.

Background

After the success of Flower Power's preceding singles, "Paparazzi" and "Oh!", both of which clenched the #1 spot on the Oricon Chart's daily single chart and sold a collective total of more than 190,000 copies, the group's follow-up single "Flower Power" was announced on October 2, 2012. "Flower Power" is scheduled for release in Japan on November 14, 2012, two weeks before the release of the group's second Japanese studio album. A concept photo released by the group's Japanese label shows the group trying to escape searchlights.

However, due to production issues, the physical release was postponed from November 14 to November 21. On October 28, 2012, an audio preview for the song aired on Japanese TV."Flower Power" also contains a track entitled "Beep Beep," which will not be featured on the album. The single also contains a highlight medley of the accompanying album. However, the single was released digitally on the original November 14 release date. This single was be only a limited release, but will come in a long digipak case with a 20-page photo book.

Composition

"Flower Power" is an up-tempo dance pop number, taking influences from electropop and electronica, with a "flowing" bass line, with a sexy chorus line demonstrating the "sexy side" of Girls' Generation, contrary to the single's title. Lyrically, the song describes "the strategic moves between a man and a woman on the dance floor," sung by the group with "the sound and light of a glitzy atmosphere."

Music Video

'FLOWER POWER' MV:

On October 31, 2012, SM. Entertainment released the "Flower Power" PV in two versions, the normal and dance version. The music video is similar to their 2011 Japanese PV "Mr. Taxi" in respect to the production and shooting style of the video, along with the bondage-like costumes worn which resemble the outfits used in "Mr. Taxi". Within the song’s perspective of the world, the nine girls sing and dance in a near future cosplay image of “bondage”-like cabin attendants under a fictional airline company, Air GG.
On April 5, 2013, a shortened version of the music video for "Beep Beep" was released. A full version of the music video was released on the group's third Japanese album, Love & Peace
