The 3rd Album "The Boys"





The Boys is the third studio album by Girls' Generation. It was released on October 19, 2011 in South Korea. The album features the lead single "The Boys".

In August 2011, SM Entertainment confirmed that the group will be back in September with their third full-length album, but the release date was eventually delayed to October due to Sooyoung’s unexpected car accident injury.



On September 30, 2011, SM Entertainment announced that the album would be indefinitely postponed due to ongoing discussions about an album release in the United States, with details to be released as soon as they were confirmed.The group's comeback performances commence on October 21, 2011, starting with Music Bank on October 21, 2011. On October 23, 2011, member Tiffany officially confirmed at the SMTown Live '10 World Tour in New York City that a US maxi-single is set to be released worldwide on November 19, 2011 under their American label, Interscope Records.




On September 26, 2011 the first teaser photo featuring Taeyeon was released online for the impending comeback for "The Boys", followed by Sunny and Hyoyeon on September 27, Jessica, Sooyoung and Tiffany on September 28, and Yoona, Yuri, and Seohyun on September 29. The girls all represented a fairytale theme. On October 1, 2011, SM Entertainment released "The Boys" Image Teaser #1, followed by "The Boys" Image Teaser #2 on October 7, 2011. Both teasers showed Yoona picking up a black crystal, and proceeds to show the rest of the members in an outside, mistly atmosphere. Later on October 13, 2011, SM Entertainment released 16 sec. teaser clips for both the Korean and English version of the "The Boys". The teaser depicts the girls rapping and chanting along to the song. On the same day, SM released 30 sec. teaser clips of "The Boys", which showed a longer version of the previous teaser videos.


Music video


Synopsis
The video begins with Yoona picking up a black crystal. The camera zooms into the stone and shows the other members walking around in the area with rose petals falling in slow motion, along with Jessica releasing a white dove. The song begins and the girls start the dance routine in a black and white fashioned room. It also shows them dancing in a misty atmosphere with sand on the ground. The dance break in the middle of the song features a rap performed by Yuri, Yoona, Hyoyeon, and Sooyoung. Towards the end of the music video, the camera focuses on a slow-motioned flying dove. The video ends with the girls posing inside the black crystal while the rose petals continue to fall.

Reception

The music video for "The Boys" choreographed by Rino Nakasone Razalan, was met with mostly positive reception among the public. Fans noted that the 'choreography is more polished than their previous works' and praised its stunning visuals along with the girls' beauty. Both the English and Korean music videos combined managed to garner 10 million views on popular video-sharing site YouTube in 3 days, a new feat for K-Pop music videos. The Korean version of the music video uploaded by SM Entertainment currently has an 82% approval rating, based on the number of likes and dislikes.
The Korean version of “The Boys” music video was the third most viewed video on YouTube's music category for the week of October 25, 2011.

                              Chart Performance

“The Boys” debuted at #1 in the first day of release on major music sites such as Bugs, Melon, Dosirak, Naver and Daum. On a few particular music charts, a total of ten songs charted within the top ten on the Gaon Chart, such as “Telepathy“, “Top Secret“, “Vitamin", “How Great Is Your Love“, “Mr Taxi“ and others. The Korean Version debuted at number 1 on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100.

Critical reception

The Boys received a lot of reviews from critics. Jen Erenza from Ryan Seacrest's official blog complimented it, calling it a 'foot-stomping, head-crackin’, and girl-powered track sung by nine girls that everyone needs to hear'.
